Background

Youth Action Stockport begun in November 2006 with a grant from the national charity v (see later). The scheme was orginally set up to introduce volunteering opportunities to to marginalised Young People of Stockport. The project was great success and ran alongside the traditional volunteering brokerage (placing volunteers in organisations) that the Stockport Volunteer Centre that accrediated the hours volunteers between 16 - 25 achieved.

In October 2008 Youth Action Stockport offically launched the new vinvolved team. This excting new scheme would work with Young People and organisations to create new opportunities that would benefit both the organisation and the young person.

The Stockport vinvolved Team 

The Stockport v involved team is a three year project which started in April 2008.  It is funded by the new national charity V, which was launched to champion youth volunteering in England (www.wearev.com).  V aims to inspire a million more young people to volunteer throughout the country.  To do this, V is working to increase the quantity, quality and diversity of volunteering opportunities available to young people. 

The v involved team aims to develop a co-ordinated and strategic approach to youth volunteering in Stockport, engaging young people between the ages of 16 and 25 from all backgrounds.  There is particular emphasis to work with voluntary organisations who already involve volunteers to see how these opportunities could be redesigned and promoted to younger people. The v involved team can provide support to develop current opportunities.

Our focus is upon community impact; we want young people to make a real difference in their local community, be it through direct delivery of services, decision making or taking a led on issues that they are passionate about. If voluntary organisations or community groups have any plans, projects or initiatives in the pipe-line that need the injection of some enthusiasm and creativity; the v involved team can offer support and guidance on involving young volunteers.
